{"id":144,"date":"2014-10-09T11:27:17","date_gmt":"2014-10-09T09:27:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ace-club.org.za\/?page_id=144"},"modified":"2025-12-08T14:00:29","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T12:00:29","slug":"hall-of-ace","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ace-club.org.za\/?page_id=144","title":{"rendered":"Club Info"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>When were we established?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Athletics Club Eersterust<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #333333;\">was established <strong>1 August 1991<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #333333;\">by a few school teachers namely:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><strong>Mr P.J Japhta<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><strong> Mr Vikkie Julius<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><strong>Mr Roderick Leyds<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><strong> Mr James Cornwall<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><strong>the Late Mr Russel Veldman<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><strong> Mr Stan Geldenhuys<\/strong> <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">and <strong>Mr Jet Moses<\/strong> was asked in to manage the Road Running leg of the Club.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Our name.<\/strong>..<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The name <strong>ACE<\/strong> was the brainchild of the late <strong>Mr Veldman<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Our 1st\u00a0Race humbly started In <strong>September of 1993<\/strong> being only a 15km Race with no Sponsor just using the little club funds we had to being judged in the 2014 September Issue of Runners World as one of\u00a0 best organized top 20 Half Marathons in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>More about or founding members&#8230;<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The first registered member of the Club was <strong>Mr Glynn Speckman<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Our First runner to Run the Comrades in ACE colors was <strong>Mr Jet Moses<\/strong>, also being the first Club Captain and later became the Chairman of the club for a number of years. He is also now an honorary member of the club.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Club Achievements<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Achievements of our members range from running the London Marathon, running on some remote Island in the middle of nowhere to <strong>The<\/strong> <strong>160 km\u00a0Washie Miler<\/strong> including Marathons throughout the length and breadth of country flying the <strong>ACE<\/strong> colors high wherever they go.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Permanent number<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>A few ultramarathons has certain criteria to obtain a permanent number, for example when you have completed a certain amount of races etc..<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #333333;\">C<span style=\"color: #993300;\">omrades green numbers:<\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The criteria for inclusion in the Comrades Marathon Green Number Club Roll of Honour is:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">3 wins or 5 golds or 10 plus medals<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The names recorded in this roll are of runners who have earned their Comrades Marathon number in perpetuity, members of an exclusive band of individuals who have experienced a special relationship with this great race.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The concept of Green Numbers was first introduced in the 1972, but it was applied retrospectively so that the names listed herein do in fact constitute a complete list of individuals who have met the criteria.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>ACE<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">\u00a0proudly brags with quite a few in our midst.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Other Ultra Marathon permanent numbers<\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>ACE<\/strong> also proudly brags with a few Om die dam; Two Oceans; Kosmos 3-in-1 ultramarathon permanent numbers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When were we established?
